Pasties are the traditional food of our Gold Rush minors.
Marie Marshall perfected the modern-day pasty from authentic Cornish recipes handed down from the descendants of English settlers.
Carrie Marshall continues the 42-year tradition rolling each pasty by hand, then seasoning and baking it to perfection.
Varieties include savory beef, turkey, chicken, and many more including a sweet apple pasty.
Whether you take out or dine in, Marshall's Cornish pasties are delicious.

Looks like we're just moments away from the official start.
Yeah, it looks like the color guard's coming down the main avenue right here abroad street as we get ready to start.
Uncle Sam leading up the front of that.
Yes.
That's Tom Newark is Uncle Sam.
And the pride goes wild, huh Susan?
Yes, we actually have a little bit of trivia about the origin of Uncle Sam.
Probably began in around 1812.
There was a man named Samuel Wilson who was a meat packer who provided meat to the U.
S.
Army and the shipments were stamped with the initials U.
S.
Somebody joked that the initial stood for Uncle Sam and this joke eventually led to the idea that Uncle Sam might symbolize the U.
S.
government.
Here he is coming down in front of the color guard at the beginning of the parade.
And Rick, you said that's Tom Newark as our Uncle Sam.
Yeah, what a great representation of America though.
What a great way to go.
A little dab of hair on his chin and he's got things you know.
He wears it well.
Yeah, fired up in our colors.
God bless America right here.
He's real good at the crowd too.
Yeah.
There he is.
Just waving to us in the booth.
Hi Tom.
And the parade is on its way.
Our local veterans group.
Vietnam Veterans of America chapter 535.
Thank you to a service to our country.
Hey, without them we don't have today.
That's a fact.
You know that.
Now this is one nice motorcycle here.
I wonder how you found the ride.
How you got the spot back there in the back to riding thing.
Instead of walk the parade route.
I wouldn't mind cruising on that myself.
Yeah.
I think that went off to Omaha, huh?
Vietnam Veterans are coming down the street with the POW flag that we're all familiar with.
That's the one that's probably the most bothersome thing you see is that.
That flag.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It just tears out your heartstrings right there.
Well this is our opportunity to pay tribute to all the great service that they've done for our country.
Amen.
These are veterans on the track.
Sometimes it's hard to remember that's my generation.
Yeah.
Hard to remember that generation period, you know.
I don't even remember the 110th first parade.
Now you're a hometown boy.
I should have been here for that one.
There they are.
What a task those boys got offered.
In the background you might be able to hear God bless America.
Song over the loudspeakers.
And it's awesome.
Off the balconies and the streets are lined.
There are six, eight, ten people deep.
Balconies are packed.
People waving flags.
Carrying on.
Here they are.
What a job guys.
Thank you.
So great.
Pretty nice truck too.
It is.
It's rolling.
Yeah.
Bombs bursting in air.
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Most faith does not start spangled banner yet wave
for the land of the free.
And the home, the home of the brave.
Oh, very nice.
There's a rendition for ya.
Got my heart filled.
That was good.
Teary-eyed, great rendition of our anthem.
Wow, great job.
So the parade stopped there for a few minutes for a live rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Beautiful job.
Here comes our Marine Corps color guard.
Gold country detachment number 885.
Those are no kids holding those flags up either, I gotta tell ya.
Another nice truck too.
Do you think the truck actually was in combat of some sort?
I'll tell ya what.
It's dated right.
It looks right for that.
I wouldn't have wanted to have been the guy underneath trying to wrench on one of those,
you know, in a mud flat.
And service it.
Oh, my lord, huh?
And these guys drove them through the back jungles of Vietnam.
Thank you, boys.
They look pretty tough to me.
Yep.
They take the job very seriously, fortunately.
They say red, white, and blue, those colors don't run.
That Marianne Slate Droughtman there?
On top of the track, waving.
Hey.
Hi, you guys.
Thank you.
Another one of the sponsors for Toys for Tots.
It's good to know.
Yeah.
Great cause at Christmas time.
And that boy, they lock down the traffic.
Here we go.
Look at friends of the Nevada County military.
I think that's all of us.
Yes.
This group does a great job packing boxes of goodies that get shipped over to the troops
from Nevada County on a regular basis.
To our local.
It's non-political.
They don't take sides.
They just support the troops who are there.
The Blue Star mothers.
We support our children.
Some of them are wearing shirts with the names of their sons and grandsons and granddaughters
who are serving.
My son and daughter are serving.
That's what's on the T-shirts.
Very nice.
Oh, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
That's awesome.
That is awesome.
We're on Greg and Michelle and their boy in there.
He's back for a short visit.
He heads back to Afghanistan.
Nice, young man.
This is.
.
.
This is Frank Galino.
We're getting pretty close here.
year.
Yeah, this is the legion guard right here.
This was founded in 1919.
It's the
oldest nonpartisan nonprofit veterans organization formed by veterans for veterans and their
families.
And I can tell you something that anybody that didn't know Frank Galino really
missed a treat.
He was a great under sheriff here for years and years and years and just
a genuine gentleman.
These are the wellers who support our troops that aren't here today.
The post 130 was named for Frank Galino, Nevada County Sheriff and an active long time legion
member.
You can see members of the poster handing out small American flags to the crowd.
How about
that? These folks do a lot.
The van is playing the music.
Glory, glory, hallelujah.
It has the
official seal of all the different branches of the military on the side.
There's the pastor.
Out there with all our trouble veterans.
They take care of they do a lot of stuff.
Rufa T's coming down, huh? Or for prison band on its way.
We're gonna have a little fun now.
Gonna try to get a quick interview with the head whiz bang there.
These guys are fun.
They're fun.
I just learned that for prison is actually a gated community.
They busted out of their gated
community to have some 4th of July fun.
Bring out the rubber chickens.
I thought it would be fun to
play with this group, but I don't ever see any women.
All right, let's go.
Hey, Rupert,
hello everybody for the 4th of July.
Hello everybody.
I think they're gonna start here in
just a minute, so I'm backing out of the way here so we can run over.
What a great group.
These guys
are fun.
And they're the only group that will go around twice too.
Oh, and the parade? Yeah.
Second
time around.
They probably can't go around twice.
Here we are.
There goes the rubber chicken.
Well, to tell you how the band has progressed, there was only one
kazoo.
They've been able to afford instruments.
You might have to drop the kazoo out of their
kazoo marching band.
Here are the welcome home vets.
Okay, coming up.
Welcome home vets,
a non-profit in Grass Valley that provides mental health services to veterans and their
families at no cost to them.
Nice car.
Look at the Merc.
1949.
Merc, you're a convertible.
Wow.
My
wife wants one of those bad.
I can see you driving that, Rick.
My wife would.
I'd have trouble getting
from her.
Oh, that's exactly how she's taken.
Chopped and blacked out.
The backseat is Vietnam
veteran and welcome home vets board member Doug Becker.
Also, the backseat is a veteran of the
war on terror.
Welcome home vets.
The Lucent serves veterans of all branches of the military who
serve in our country.
Here they are.
Good job.
So glad when they can come back.
Yeah, amen.
Bring
them home safe.
Here we go with the Grand Marshal Madeline Helling coming down here.
What a doll.
Yeah.
What would you like me to say? You can say happy 4th of July to everybody here on this
beautiful day in Nevada City.
Happy 4th of July to everybody here in this wonderful town and
wonderful scenery, wonderful residents.
And we think you're pretty special to Madeline and
congratulations on being selected as Grand Marshal.
Very deserving.
Now, Madeline is a lifelong
librarian here locally and has just given countless hours and selflessly of her own time.
And she
asked me to make sure that I'd mentioned she is the director of the Railroad Museum currently.
Very
proud of that.
Oh, very proud.
She founded it.
And I sit on the board for the Historical Society
with her.
What a love.
One of my favorite people.
Well, the sirens are going off.
That
means the city council is here.
The background checks must have come in.
Here's David McKay
waving from the top photographer.
David, David, you're live on NCTV.
Say hello to everybody.
Hello.
How are you doing? Happy 4th of July from the mayor and the whole city council in Nevada City.
Thank
you for making this such a great place to live.
Well, we appreciate all the work that you folks do
on the Nevada City City Council and there's Sally and Robert and Dwayne and and there's
Renette, past city council member.
Dwayne will be the next mayor.
Okay, Dwayne will be the next
mayor right over here.
So I'm going to let you folks go on down the parade.
Thanks for coming
today.
You're welcome and thanks for having us.
Hey, what a great job there by Susan, huh? Talking
to the council members.
And I tell you that if you want to put a bull's eye on your back,
you run for council.
Yeah, that's for sure.
Put in a lot of time, commitment.
Dwayne Strausser is the
upcoming mayor for the Nevada City City Council.
He's joined by Sally Harris, Robert Bergman,
and newcomers Jennifer Ray and Terry Anderson.
There you go.
Nice, nice truck, huh? Send in the council out for a little haywire here.
On days of old, they pass out candy and go baby kissing, right, Cheryl?
I, yeah, what happened to the good old days where I guess candy is not so good and it might hurt
somebody and so the waves, it's all just air hugs.
Yeah.
They used to throw kids in Santa
35 Indiana, Nevada City's first new public works vehicle.
Really? All right, here comes the fire department, the Nevada City Fire Department.
This is always a crowd, please.
All the different fire engines, trucks, and
they're always so clean, Rick.
Always shiny.
Oh, yeah.
Well, that's the first thing they do when
they get back.
I rode on from Nevada City for a few years and what a great job these folks do.
And I got to tell you, if that alarm goes off at two in the morning,
they can't wait to get here to that truck.
Wow, look it coming up from behind them right here.
This is the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce bicycle classic and that is a 1977 Corvette.
That's the pace car for the bicycle classic since the fifties, they said.
Owner driver is Gary Hopkins, huh?
Madeline Halling at this year's Grand Marshal namesake for Nevada County Library.
Madeline has been an integral part of our community, wearing many hats for many years.
She was county librarian for 17 years.
Okay, now we've got a good view of the 1977 Corvette.
Nice.
Back in the sixties, we drove a
Honda 300 Scramble around to do that.
Oh, hey, look, remember this event? Oh, I see soapbox car soap.
Oh, it was so much fun working
with you for a bit on that a couple weeks ago, Rick.
That was a hoot.
What great entries.
And this was a great one right here.
I really like the airplane.
It's coming into view now.
That was the, if I remember correctly, the Aviation Society did that one.
It's like Snoopy and the Flying Red Baron here.
Oh, it was, it was so awesome.
Awesome.
And hopefully Susan's going to get a quick interview with Derby.
Let me see if I can
get Snoopy to say a few words.
Hey, look.
Hey, Snoopy.
Snoopy, can you say a few words to our
live TV audience? I sure can.
Oh, wait a minute.
I'm not supposed to speak.
I think I'm supposed
to say, do you, can I sign language? Sure.
Well, I'm going to talk.
What would you like to know?
Tell us about the soapbox Derby.
Well, it was great.
And this is our first entry.
We actually
represent the EAA today, Experimental Aviation Association.
However, at the race, it's the
Experience Aviation Aces.
Okay.
Thank you very much for your time.
Have a good day.
Wow, that's great.
That is a great one.
Derby was won by Plaza Auto Tire for speed and the
art category was won by ABT Plumbing.
They took a water heater and turned it on the side,
put wheels on it and down the hill they went.
Rolled on, huh? That was a hot entry.
A lot of them.
Here are a couple of ones.
This is one of my love.
And what I was amazed at,
this hot tub entry here.
Oh, so great.
I couldn't believe how fast they were.
Exactly.
We're
dragging a hot tub down.
Aerodynamics out the window.
Let's go for a hot tub.
Boy,
it's a great for the after party.
Exactly.
Yeah.
How about that? Yeah, the Derby is now an annual tradition.
I think it raised about
$15,000 for improvements to Pioneer Park.
I think I read that.
And then I understand that on July 21st, we're going to air the first airing of our coverage of
the whole Derby.
So that's right.
For all our viewers out there, if you get a chance, tune in.
Hey, Colin, tell us what you thought of it.
We had a ball.
Oh, it's a lot of fun.
Let me talk to this hot tub guy here.
How are you doing today? How are you? You're on live TV?
Excellent.
You staying cool? Actually, this is nice in here.
We got a little bit of water here.
Are you high? We're kind of warm.
I'm under the canopy until I run out.
Happy 4th of July, everyone.
Thank you very much.
He looks like he's having a good time relaxing
at the parade in style.
Without clothes on.
He actually has some shorts on.
Which one is that? Grabbity groupers in here, right? Oh, there it is.
There it is right up there.
The one with the big teeth.
Look at that thing.
Hot doodly ding.
Wow, look at how quick they got here.
And there's Rich Baudin, the organizer for the Soapbox Derby.
All right.
This thing here was the most interesting looking creature.
It really rolled.
They added a few flags on the top of their gills.
That is one cool looking ride.
He's waving to us underneath.
We got him.
He finished.
And he finished in third place.
They're Swayzee.
Oh, Swayzee.
Swayzee Public Wholesale, the third place winner of the Soapbox Derby.
Yeah, that's the third place.
And actually, he's helping sponsor today.
Thank you, Swayzee.
And these are the junior minors.
There's some energy.
Spent some time over there.
That was fun.
Here we go.
Look at this.
This is the Nevada City All-Stars, 9 to 12-year-olds,
and their dedicated parents.
They're having the All-Stars now.
Oh, yeah.
They are having their low league playoffs at Pioneer Park.
They take today off and
start playing again tomorrow.
And I'll tell you what, for inexpensive entertainment.
It's a fantastic fish that just swallowed the bait.
When you see these free gifts here,
as they give you, by going out and watching these get really worth the time and effort.
What is it? Uncle Sam's beard, too.
Did they borrow it? Uh-huh.
And most of those have been used.
Some of them are brand new.
And get involved.
You can find a slot.
You can have your.
.
.
There's the majors All-Star.
Here's some other ones from
Nevada.
Say the majors.
Good job, guys.
Congratulations, them, for doing that.
Hey, look up the hill.
What have we got? City of Grass Valley in their festive truck.
Yeah.
Jan R.
Barkle, the mayor.
Dan Miller, Lisa Swarthout, Yolanda Cookson, Jason Foyer.
Hope I pronounced Jason's last name.
That was perfect.
Going to get a quick interview.
Susan's out there.
Hello.
We are live on N-C-T-V to the
Nevada County.
Welcome to the parade.
Thank you.
And welcome, everybody, to 4th of July parade.
This is a wonderful day.
Gorgeous.
Great attendance.
It is a very wonderful day today.
And we have it
behind you.
We have Dan Miller and next to him, Dan Miller, Jason Foyer, and Lisa Swarthout.
Thanks for coming.
Happy 4th of July.
Of course, next year, the parade will be
held at downtown Grass Valley.
There they go, in front of our booth.
And Jan did announce in the paper today that she's re-running again.
Yes.
And here's the Grass Valley Fire Department coming right behind because they're hot.
When you're hot, you're hot.
Got the big ladder on top.
Wow, that's a nice truck.
Big engine.
I remember when we didn't have
ladder trucks at Grass Valley, they'd stack them up.
Oh, I wish those guys had come over to my
house and cleaned my car.
They do such a great job on those tracks.
Exactly.
You could use the ladder
for our gutters, too.
Here we go.
Look at this.
A 1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible.
Suicide
doors.
Is that what they're called? Yep, when they open that away.
That's a suicide car.
I just learned something.
I didn't know that.
Wow, that is the owner is Christy Barton on this one.
Oh, Glamorous sitting in the back.
Nice upholstery on the car, of course.
Well, you know why a chicken coop only has two doors, don't you? If it had four doors,
there'd be a sedan.
That's the four door.
Here we go.
Nice.
Here we go.
This is
a 49er Breakfast Rotary in Nevada City Club members and Convertible Jeep Willie.
I see Marianne Davis.
I'm going to ask Marianne Davis here to say a few words about the duck race.
The duck race.
Marianne, keep walking.
Keep walking.
Tell us about the duck race.
Hey,
the duck race is this year.
It's on Constitution Day, September 11th, and it's going to be after
the parade back at the creek, and it's so much fun.
Get your tickets are on sale everywhere now
from Rotarians and soon from the schools, and please come out the day of.
It's so much fun.
And again, it's on Constitution Day.
Yes, it's Constitution Day down here in Nevada City in
September.
That's another annual parade here in Nevada City, the Constitution Day parade.
A lot of
fun.
That's excellent.
That's a fun race, too, if you haven't seen it.
Yes, thousands of ducks.
Oh, environmentalists.
And of course, the Rotary Club motto is service above self.
Good job, folks.
There's Whitewater
Willie.
Love it.
Being held by Hillary.
I'm not going to believe this, you guys.
There is Marilyn Monroe.
Here's, here's John Paul.
Say hi,
John.
Marilyn, you look gorgeous.
Elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist, wrist.
There's the duck race.
They're coming right down here.
They got a Corvette, too.
Oh, look at the flicking lights.
There we go.
They're like onlets going up and down.
The tie-dye shirt is a Lindy Beatty of the Rotarians
and John Paul right behind her next to the car.
Well, she won't have to worry about getting sunburned.
And here's Jim Eckhart holding up a sign.
Jim from clubs 141.
Okay.
The Battle Lodge.
Masons.
Nevada Lodge number 13.
What a grand flip that is.
Little information.
The Masons are the oldest union in the world.
Put a lot of work into this, though.
My grandfather was a Mason.
Great group.
Do a lot of stuff.
This is Lee Trevato.
Yeah.
Hi, guys.
Great job, these guys here.
Here come the Freedom Riders.
This is your Nevada County and Yuba City Tea Party.
The Nevada County Tea Party and Yuba City Tea Party have joined forces to honor and celebrate the
birth of our country.
Gonna get a little motorcycle noise here in the background.
Cracking the pipe.
Rev it up, kids.
And this is a long entry.
Well, they're forced to be reckoned with.
Nice look at the red white one.
I have a green motorcycle here.
Not quite camo, but a little
military looking.
Little bike with a sidecar all decorated with some bling.
Good job.
Here's a nice one with the little.
That's one of those new ones.
Big entry from the Tea Party, boy.
They do have a presence.
They do have a presence.
We even have a little cannon in the front of this float, and he's just about to shoot it off.
Here we go.
Watch out.
I think it's gonna boom there.
Right in front of our booth.
That's the smoke.
Okay.
They fooled us.
Yeah.
He's getting ready to duck.
Oh boy, what an entry, huh?
Somebody said this is the Occupy Wall Street counterpart with jobs.
They have some historical
flags here that don't tread on May Flag with the snake.
And I guess last year these guys were
the largest entry, huh, Cheryl? Yeah.
Boy, they've done another good show in this year.
Looks like it might be again this year.
Just goes to show that people are fed up with big
government and raising awareness.
Good job, boy.
Nice engine, too.
Whoo, wee.
Little antique.
Loaded all them good-looking women, too.
How about that? The antique fire truck is driven
by Dan McIntyre and his wife.
Oh.
All right, here's our next entry, the Fur Traders.
A nice
local business in downtown Nevada City.
And our actual first float entry.
They are a veteran in
the annual parade.
Yeah.
They have three stores here in Nevada City with very nice products.
Yeah, great place for slippers, huh, Susan? Yes, I have a lambswoll hat for float traders,
and I couldn't make it through the winter without them.
Too expensive for me.
Yeah,
get your fur products there.
That's great stuff right there.
Very nice leather products, too.
Uh-huh.
I got a great jacket with fringe on it, even.
Leather fringe on it, that I love.
I'm actually standing in front of their stores right now here next to the Mananza Market.
The store carries more motorcycle type fur and leather and Native American things.
So what exactly is it? I was just thinking it kind of looks like a butterfly, but it's got some.
.
.
Ooh, there's a frightening skeleton in the front.
It's a very artistic creation.
Really? Maybe that's how they process the fur.
Oh, we've got some good music coming up
from the Sierra Stages.
The entry is from Sierra Stages, and they are about to put on the Music Man,
which starts July 12th.
This is my favorite all-time musical.
Yes, I think everybody knows a song
from that musical.
I think I could sing all of them.
Well, da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da.
Come on,
we intro'd for you.
76 grand.
Excellent musical, too.
And that's going to be playing right here,
just a few doors down from our booth at the historic Nevada Theater.
And here's a maid, Marion.
I don't know if Tom Preston's making a comeback in it, but we'll see.
Oh, was that not great.
The one and only.
Yeah, we got trouble.
Right here in River City.
Yeah, which we're up for the top 10 River Cities.
Let me catch the Music Man here.
We can get a little talk.
We're live on NCTV,
would you like to say a few words to our audience? Hello, audience.
Harold Hill here.
We're in need
of a boys band, so please come down and see the Music Man next week here at the Nevada City Theater
and enjoy a wonderful, wonderful performance by local talent, and you will all have a wonderful
time.
I've heard there's trouble here in River City.
Is that true? Well, there is trouble here in
River City, and if you had noticed that there's a pool hall in town, you might want to steer clear
of that because it really is not good for your young children to be hanging out at pool halls.
All right, it starts with the P and no, it starts with T and capital P stands for pool.
That's correct.
Thank you and good luck at the show.
Thank you.
I think Susan just did an audition.
I think she did.
I really wanted to be in this when I had a conflict with the group I was in.
All right, here's the Sons of the American Revolution, the Gold Country Chapter.
The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society
that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence.
I think here we have the
daughters of the American Revolution.
Maybe this, maybe the sons, maybe they're marching
together.
Yeah.
I actually discovered in the last few months I could qualify for the
daughters of the American Revolution.
I do, I don't qualify for the daughters, but I do qualify
for the sons.
I think I have a great great great grandfather who is a Minuteman at Lexington.
Yep.
We have two captains in our family.
There it is, the daughters of the American Revolution, huh?
All members have lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.
Yeah.
So it's all proven with extensive documentation too.
It takes quite a process to
apply for the membership.
The DAR has a beautiful building in Washington DC with an extensive library,
a very gorgeous skylight that they're in the process of restoring.
Well, the Historical Society can help you with all genealogical research if your people are
interested in finding out if they qualify for organizations like this.
And you're on the
board, Rick, right? That's why I mentioned it.
That's good to have.
Self-promotion.
Oh, this is a nice classic old car antique.
Nice old Buick.
Yeah, here we go.
IHOP, huh? They're together with Baskin Robbins.
Okay.
Pancakes and ice cream.
Is that the combo? I'm not certain.
It might be a little
early for that.
Ice cream.
You scream.
We all scream for ice cream.
You're right.
We'll be good on a day like this.
There they go.
Maybe it's IHOP, you hop.
We all hop for IHOP.
Now Susan's on top,
but she might find samples.
It looks like they're towing a cooler for us there.
This is locally owned and operated IHOP of Grass Valley.
It's open seven days a week serving
breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I think I hear you shouting free ice cream.
I gotta tell you,
Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam.
The only place you can get is at IHOP.
And it's awesome.
Okay.
The owners, same owner for the IHOP and our local Baskin Robbins.
I have a Baskin Robbins and Agiles.
Pralines and cream is my favorite.
Me too.
Me too.
Love the little crunchy parts.
Okay.
We have a Brian Dahl.
Dolly.
Excuse me.
Dolly.
Lassen County Supervisor.
Brian Dolly, his wife, Megan, and their children.
They're in the antique bright red truck.
That looks like a 64.
Ford F-100.
Nice track.
Brian is running for the first assembly district.
And then there's Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate.
Okay.
Less Texas, less spending, less government.
And following them.
Oh, that's Gary's right here in Jeep 2.
He's got several cars in this one.
And his quote is, stop the insanity, vote Libertarian.
Gary Johnson.
A lot more energy going on in this year, in election year.
Here we go.
Here comes the peace center in Nevada County.
Following up the candidates.
War and violence.
They are battling the war machine.
War and violence are
bleeding our country to death.
Peace is the cure.
Little banjo music.
This is a dedicated group.
They come out for every parade.
10 small American cities want to be the best in America.
We happen to be
in third place right now.
So if you guys can hold, get on outside.
Peace not war.
You can vote once every single day.
So if we all did it, I think we could get into first place.
Yep.
Here's Alan Stoller in the front of the little gurney.
He's a local scientist.
A lot of print and workshops on their astronomy.
Money for education, not war.
All right, here's the old barn.
Self storage.
Yeah.
We can borrow that truck.
Free.
Move in.
If you want to.
Love it.
Could have used that for getting in CTV move to its new location off of Providence Mine.
Right.
And we're up and rolling too.
So I hope people get a chance to watch us on the internet,
on our local cable channels.
Comcast and sudden link.
Yep.
Which includes our Wednesday night
program at the Thursday night grass valley market.
The Wednesday night program of the Thursday night
show.
You bet.
No contradiction in that.
Or self promotion.
What a ball that is.
What a ball.
And CTV is live again after our move and rebuilding the rack.
We want to thank Jay Cousa,
engineer, supreme for rebuilding us.
Rebuilding us a more stable broadcasting rack in our new
location.
Well, here it comes.
Jay's in the station right now, making sure the show goes out to you
live from Nevada city.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And Carolyn Terries on our staff as well.
We really
appreciate all the hard work they do.
Here comes the rough and ready fire department who just got
a new station open.
So they're excited.
Brand new station.
We got the old one for sale.
If anybody's
looking, look like a great place for a car restore.
Wow, 1000 gallons of water in that thing.
Great Republic of rough and ready.
Yep.
I believe rough and ready seceded
for a very short period from the union.
Yes, they did.
They're proud of it.
Here's waste management
with all kinds of new changes.
They now hold the dump.
They did got the contract service in our community.
That's for sure.
Oh, yeah.
And they're really
being progressive with their recycling efforts.
Hey, Girl Scouts.
This is my favorite.
I love
Girl Scout cooking.
There's some energy coming 100 years.
How about that? Girl Scouts is a very
good program for helping young girls learn positive values and work skills.
Go out and talk to one
of the local Girl Scout people there.
Yeah.
See if you can get a discount on cookies, Susan.
Hey, those thin mints of the bean butter patties.
We're live on TV.
Would you like to talk about
Girl Scout cookies? Girl Scout cookies are delicious.
When are they on sale? We actually sell in the
wintertime.
So I think we ended sales and it was a, I want to say, March.
Happy 4th of July.
Thank you,
YouTube.
Thank you.
That's cool.
Okay.
Coming up.
Next entry coming down.
Nevada County Narrow Gauge Range Railroad Museum.
Yep.
The Narrow Gauge Railroad.
That's an awesome group over there.
Very interesting museum.
Lots of, lots of work going into restoration of all those
engines and everything.
Little Johnny right in front.
Yeah.
Is this the one on Railroad Avenue?
Yes.
Where Madeleine is on the road.
Madeleine's the director.
The director.
Yes.
Not only picking up what we don't like.
Our grand marshal.
They throw real green at community events.
So thank you Waze Management.
Hey, Pat.
Look at that.
It's a hand crank.
19th century hand car.
It was built by the Railroad Museum's
volunteers.
I've only seen that in cartoons.
I'm telling you if you want to see guys working,
you ought to go by there.
They do a ton of stuff.
Looks like a good workout for your
triceps.
Okay.
We've got coming down the Gold Country American Club.
German America.
Yes.
Leader Hosens.
Dedicated to the enjoyment of the German culture in our community.
They do hiking,
language, singing, skiing, kayaking and alpine folk dancing.
Well, we're watching the German American Club.
We want to give a shout out to Marissa
Dominguez who is watching in Texas via the Internet.
NevadaCountyTV.
org.
Hey Marissa.
Hey.
Hey.
Happy Fourth.
Hope you're staying cool down there in Texas.
It's hot, Texas.
We are so lucky
to have the kind of state we have in Nevada County and one of them used to be and still
Marissa tells us the parade's looking great on the Internet.
We're very happy to hear that.
Streaming worldwide on the Internet so you can see us anywhere.
Here's in any Houston.
That's right.
This is Wells Construction Inc.
I have some German ancestry.
Maybe I ought to join this club.
Well, if you don't want to pay your gym membership, just pop up on that map.
Some accordion music.
Let's listen.
Real alpine dancing.
Here's your Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue.
They're an all-volunteer group.
And an important group, particularly with our wooded area around us.
I'm going to say a few words
here to check, Samakka.
Oh, thank you very much.
We're having a great time every year we love doing
this.
We appreciate the work all you do on Search and Rescue.
Be careful you're going to run out of
your cord there.
Good group.
They also have a canine team currently the largest in the state.
Plus a ground team.
Good for them and good work they do for our county.
Here comes the canine now.
There's some on each side of the street and their reflective heat proof jackets.
Right for the shade and sat down.
That's awesome.
He's no dummy.
The dogs have a hundred times more powerful scent of smell than humans.
That's why they're so useful
in Search and Rescue.
Look, he even got booties on him.
Good job.
They're trained, highly trained,
just as much as the volunteers are.
And there are different dogs for ancient cadavers as there are
for current cadavers too.
Really? Yeah, and wholly different training.
One can't do the other.
And
these are for people of current scent.
I hate to think we smell that long, but maybe we do.
A little ATV battalion here from the Search and Rescue team.
Well, they found that guy here not
too long ago that got lost.
They were just called out.
You're absolutely right, and they were able to
rescue him.
They've even found people lost in Alta Sier.
Oh, South County.
Here we go.
The streets are tough down there, black, and I've gotten turned around myself.
Yeah, you should have been around before they paved them and you used to go to, never mind.
A little local humor, we've got you and I here.
Okay, coming up is Goal Country Stage and Goal Country Telecare.
They provide fixed-route public
transit service throughout Western Nevada County with regional service to Auburn,
Monday through Friday.
This is important.
Transportation service to our county.
Well, and they really do help out the seniors get from point A to point B a lot of times.
They're
doctor's appointments and things like that.
Thank you, Nevada County Search and Rescue.
Provides transportation services to persons with disabilities and seniors throughout our community.
Yeah.
Be like us, ride the bus.
And that's such an important service since we have a mostly rural community here.
And a lot of elderly people.
Yes.
We have some other people who would like to really support the community and you've got to support
it back and that's where you have to go.
But it's great parades like this that bring all the
rural residents into beautiful downtown Nevada City and Grass Valley on ultimate years for
the 4th of July parade.
Well, it lets you know just how much we do here as a community, you know.
Uncle Sam there in the door.
They're coming down the hill and they gotta come.
Hey, Union Hill Band, hear me some music.
All right, I love a band.
The director of the band is David Lin.
Let's hear him rock.
Here we go.
Me back to my youth marching band.
Oh, yeah.
Claire Annette.
Claire Annette.
Claire Annette.
We had big hats we had to wear though.
That was the hardest thing to keep on.
Strap to your neck.
Okay.
This is a U.
S.
military jeep driven in memory of Mr. Jean King.
He taught art at
Lyman Gilmore School for 30 years.
Here's the Nevada County Republican Party and the
Nevada County Republican Women's Federated.
The theme this election year is taking back
America with boots on the ground.
Yep.
They're a get out the boat group this year.
Lots of very interesting boots hanging on the sides to represent their slogan.
You can see boots along the back of the truck as well.
This is Care Crisis Nursery.
Getting a nice flag here from the Republican ladies at the table.
Speaking of the flag, it's not clear who actually designed it, but the experts at the Betsy Ross
House suggest it was Francis Hopkinson, a New Jersey delegate to the Continental Congress.
Yes, and most people just assume that it's Betsy Ross because that kind of became the
folklore, but there really is no credible historical evidence that she was the person who
sowed it.
There were several flag makers in Philadelphia at the time.
However, she's definitely
credited with the idea of changing it from a six-pointed star to a five-pointed star because
they were easier to make.
The six-pointed stars were quite skinny, like a star in the sky design.
When it became five-pointed, they became somewhat fatter.
The flag has 13 stripes, seven red,
six white, and they represent the original 13 colonies.
That's right, and they don't run or.
.
.
Where's the Care Crisis Nursery car? This is a wonderful organization.
56 Cadillac.
They take in children up to six years old who are in a crisis situation.
This is a very important service to our community and very valuable.
They cap out at six years old, though, am I correct? Yes.
Yeah.
Hey, there it is in Nevada City Lions, and we are supposed to mention
that the Nevada City Lions new president is Vern Taylor.
Yes, congrats, Vern.
Yeah,
a lot of years with Vern.
They're shooting at water in every direction.
What kind of car is that? Do we know this little blue car? Looks like a water.
That's an aquacar.
It's an aquacar.
That will go on water or land and do up to seven knots in the water.
License plate, a boat, two.
Made in Germany.
I can't quite read what it says on the side.
I wanted one of those bad in high school.
Oh, look at the curl on the back.
Okay,
hey, Shelly Smart Shopper is on tap next.
There's a little pause.
We're waiting for the next float to come down, the next entry.
You're watching live on nctv and on the internet.
NevadaCountyTV.
org brought to you by Touchdown Productions.
The Independence Day was first
celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8th, 1776, four days after the initial signing of the
Declaration.
The Liberty Bell sounded from the Tower of Independence Hall on that day,
and it summoned citizens together for the first public reading of the Declaration of
Independence by Colonel John Nixon.
John Hancock was really the only signer who signed it on July
4th.
Most of the other 50-plus signers did not sign the Declaration until August 2nd.
They had to think about it.
Sleep on it.
Well, they weren't all there at the time,
but most of them were.
The word patriotism comes from the Latin word patriot.
Which means homeland or fatherland.
Same root as the word paternal.
Wow, look at all these flags coming down now.
I like them blowing in the breeze.
I think they're auctioning that off.
I'm not sure.
Is that right? Are you guys auctioning that off?
Nevada City Lines.
That's Vern right there.
Oh, did we give him a little promo early?
Well, we gave him an early promo, it looks like, because somebody snuck something in between on
us here.
It's okay, that little German car.
Yeah, that was cute.
Yeah, Vern's driving, it looks like.
Yeah, Vern in the front seat there.
And he's pulling a soapbox derby car.
Side of the car says Nevada City Lions celebrate the American dream.
They had an entry in this year's soapbox derby.
Look at a shot of that.
Wildfills Tattoos.
No, that's not Vern driving.
We're probably sitting back there in the air condition right now.
Soapbox derby entry is a sort of a Darth Vader looking type of car.
Now this Hummer is decorated and it's Shelly's smart shopper.
Quarterly publication with discounts from various merchants throughout the community.
I always cut out lots of those coupons every time it arrives.
Lots of good food ones, yes.
Friends of the library right behind.
And this is one of our grand marshal's passions right here was
founding not just one but two libraries.
New libraries are locally and this children's library
is part of it.
We have a meddling library.
Yeah, and she did the one in Truckee also.
I really appreciate the friends of the library.
They're all volunteers and they keep the doors
fully historical library open, which is where a lot of genealogical and Nevada County historical
research can be done.
And we wouldn't have that library open at all if it weren't for friends
of the library.
So we really appreciate what they do.
And don't forget they every sat first
Saturday of every month they have their book sales.
So for those people that don't know go buy.
They accept book donations.
So if you have books that you don't want anymore, take them to the
doors fully library or any of the libraries and they'll be resold and fund support our county
library system.
Okay, M3 mall, a beauty and wellness studio.
Lots of volunteers that help out with
the nonprofits.
Today we have visiting Queens.
Junior Miss.
That was a great pageant.
We had a state junior miss here and Janet Young one year.
And our very own Melissa Missler is Mrs.
Northern California.
There she is in the back of this little
Ford Mustang classic gold Mustang here 65.
65 really.
Melissa's done some shows on nctv.
She's quite a good announcer and a host of shows.
Oh, really.
Yeah, yeah, here's a quick fix for about 225.
Plumbing doesn't work.
Network real estate.
Bill and Kathy Papola, Brooker's owners.
Yeah.
They have been named the best of Nevada County for many, many years.
Nicely decorated little red car.
Good job.
Okay, right behind them is the Bear River High School
cheerleading team.
Yeah, I'm certain that's the junior Bruins.
We appreciate these kids coming out.
Oh boy.
They are athletes, by the way, and they will tell you so.
Party time.
Party time rolling bias.
This is good.
Let the good times roll.
Party supplies for adults
and children of all ages, which even includes you, Rick.
Yes.
Good kid you are.
I love those bouncy ball things.
And they do cupcakes.
Now they're smart.
The umbrella is in the back of their truck.
They're located over there behind McDonald's between Save Mart and Builders and Consumers.
Driven, it's got the A to Z supply truck.
There's young Danny Whede up on top.
That's a very handy location too.
So if you're ever shopping at Save Mart,
be in seek and just pop into the party store and get your party supplies.
Looks like they have
Hawaiian.
You can see some Hawaiian themed party supplies there.
Some of the types of Moroccan.
There you go.
Gold Country Celtics Society.
My mom would be up dancing with the bagpipes.
Oh, nice.
Well, this is for your mom.
Yeah.
It carries the flags of the many regions of the Celtic heritage.
We've been to most of the Celtic festivals here in town for the last seven or eight years.
They're a lot of fun.
Oh, they bring in a lot of people to our county.
People from all over just
for that festival.
There's some very interesting activities there.
Dog, sort of shepherd dog performances.
Well, they do honor the Cornish and the Welsh.
The daughters of Cornwall are real active in the community around here too.
They have some interesting athletic performances there.
People,
fellows throwing big logs and big round steel balls and quite something to see.
As well as a fantastic music, of course, and that festival is put on by KVMR,
which is based right here in Nevada City.
Let's listen for a moment to the bagpipes.
Well, we have a pause with the bagpipe music.
We'd like to remind you that you're watching
exclusive coverage of the 110th annual Nevada City Independence Day Parade produced by Touchdown
Productions right here on NCTV.
Good turnout today too.
Oh, remarkable.
The streets are packed.
The balconies are loaded.
The Fourth of July Parade Committee as telecast is presented by the
committee, which is the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce, the Grass Valley Downtown Association,
and the Grass Valley Nevada County Chambers of Commerce.
They are proud to represent the
business community of Nevada County.
Coming up behind our little
our next group right here is Rescues for Pet's Sake.
This is a nice adoption and fostering group
co-founded by Pam Gorman and Bev Albright.
Pam's had a show on NCTV for many years
for pet's sake.
You can actually see the pets that are available for adoption and I have to
cite if that's the kind you're looking for.
I have one of my dogs from fostering it and
she became mine within 24 hours.
Is she really? Good dog.
Yeah.
We have a lot of animal groups
here in this county.
People very dedicated to animal welfare.
There's a group right here that
steps up to the front of it.
Looks like we have some little dog parade participants too.
A little trailer's getting a shot of that now.
There's some well-behaved animals just sitting that little trailer or something.
Looks like they're having fun.
Too hot to do anything else.
Susan, did you want to interview
one of the dogs? Roof.
Roof.
Roof.
Good job, guys.
Yeah, they look mellow, happy.
Staying business in a place like Nevada City.
We never have parties.
Here comes the U.
S.
Army.
It's a Hummer.
And I hear the marching band of Nevada Union.
Right behind them, huh? Oh, it's great they got so
many kids out.
It can be really tough to get the kids out when they're on summer vacation,
but there's a bunch of them here and we really appreciate that.
Let's listen for a few minutes to the Nevada Union Band directed by Ken Carter.
What a wonderful job he's done.
Ken Carter in the last 10 years with this band.
They've really
come a long way.
They sound great.
Makes you want to dance or march.
I used to be on the drill team at my high school.
Marching band here.
This is, oh, precision.
They are having fun.
Yeah.
Oh, great flag growing.
Look at the precision of their feet.
You're doing a great job of the plans.
Good job.
Right here in front of us.
Get ready to start again.
Go to this.
Right in front of us is Ken Carter.
Wow.
Well, coming up right behind the band here, look at this.
This is the Grass Valley Host Lions.
This is the Grass Valley Host Lion Charter Boy Scouts Troop 4.
My old Boy Scout Troop,
found by Sam Partridge.
There you go, Rick.
There's some nostalgia for you.
Yeah, happy birthday.
That's a dreamy float.
You've done a very nice job on this float.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think they're playing just for us, Rick and Susan.
I think so.
I love that song.
There they go.
And in front of us, Grass Valley Host Lions.
Simply dreamy float.
The Grass Valley Host Lions has
a cultural exchange program that starts this Saturday and my husband and I and our son are
going to be hosting a young man from the Netherlands for two weeks here in Grass Valley.
Oh, very nice.
And it looks like this is trying to promote our fair coming up in the fairgrounds.
Yeah.
One of the our fairgrounds is an award-winning.
I think they had a winner prize for this float.
I think so.
Next, American Heritage Girls, California Troop 49.
Christ Centered Scouting Organization for Girls 5 to 18.
Building integrity through God, family, community and country.
Hello to them.
There's AR.
Hi, guys.
Okay.
There's more of the American Heritage Girls coming up.
You know, I think a lot of people don't know that the Grass Valley Host Lions, the group we just saw,
they actually built the Love Building in Condon Park.
Yes, they did.
They're getting ready to do a
major remodel and they got an addition plan for it.
A lot of local events hosted there.
Are they taking on that job too? I think it's in conjunction with the city, sort of the partnership.
Yeah.
Here comes the American Heritage Girls Troop now.
Building integrity.
Great job.
Nicely decorated.
Really well done.
Handmade.
The stars.
Passionate.
Respectful.
Pure.
Helpful.
Oh my gosh, in the back of the truck.
Yes, they're roasting marshmallows.
Okay, just passed in front of us.
We'll take one.
Yeah.
S'mores right here.
S'mores to table two.
I recently saw a recipe for s'mores with peanut butter in them.
Yes.
That would be me.
I'm going to have to try that sometime.
Well, here comes Century 21.
Davis Ridley the Inc.
How about this car? I like that.
Yeah.
Classic convertible Mercedes.
Yeah,
Roadster.
This is a lot of fun.
Especially on a day like this.
Yeah, and they got three local
elementary school students.
Must have been the luck of the draw to riding that convertible, huh?
Here's some more lions, Pat.
How about the Grass Valley Host Lions Club?
All right.
Wow, that's.
.
.
Looks like we've got the Neo Group coming in front of our camera now.
This is a great youth
organization that promotes a drug-free lifestyle for our local teens.
They offer them things to do.
Teenagers are always saying there's just nothing to do, and this provides a lot of
opportunities and events, and they even have a stage area at the Thursday night market that
we'll be seeing, Rick.
Oh, so.
.
.
A lot to showcase the musical talents that many of the teens have.
Do they do local teen dances and things of that nature, too? They do have get-togethers and
after-school functions.
Okay.
Excellent.
Yes, as I just mentioned, they had their own stage at the Thursday night market.
Yes.
That's the one right alongside Packard, I believe.
Isn't that their stage back there,
where they're young entertainers? I think they're on South Auburn, if they have been.
Yes, that's the youth stage.
I believe Neo stands for never even once or not even once.
Not even
once encouraging young people to not try drugs even once.
Yeah, I've watched that show a couple
times.
It's a really great job.
Really great job.
Let's hear a little bit of their music now.
Nice.
Yeah.
Good job.
Good looking group of kids, huh?
Talented.
All right.
I see coming down our trade path, a Robin Hood tax campaign.
Okay.
Leave you a late entry here.
Yeah, this is the.
.
.
The sign says Heal America, Tax Wall Street.
Their website is robinhoodtax.
org.
I imagine they advocate for taxing their very wealthy people here to help those
on the lower end of the spectrum.
Okay.
Next, llamas.
Yes, the California International Lama
Association.
Very odd looking creatures.
Yeah.
I'm very intrigued with them,
because perhaps they're so different looking.
Well, the people in the high Andes and things survive by them.
I mean, these guys can pack.
And we do have local rescue efforts for them too.
Nick, we have some llama farms around here and you can often get the local
fur, fur, whatever, its products from them.
Very warm, very sound.
Chris's collision.
Yep.
They're next to the airport.
Yeah.
Chris, I think is retired and I think his boy Mark now runs this.
Built that building a few hundred years ago.
And he does a great job.
I don't know if you've ever been in there.
It is absolutely
spotless.
Even the repair area.
Yeah.
Great, great work.
They take care of their place and your car.
Yeah.
Okay.
A couple of things done by them.
They've got some things coming out.
Looks like Frisbees that they're throwing out.
Wow.
Anthony and Cleopatra is apparently coming to the Nevada Theater.
Anthony.
Well, there she is.
Watch out for the snake.
I'm out of here.
I'm out of here.
August 23rd to September 15th at the Nevada Theater.
Shakespeare is Anthony and Cleopatra.
Teddycon Limited.
Presented by the Alexandrian belly dance troupe.
Here we go.
There she is.
Bow down.
Here comes the queen.
I kind of like that mode of transportation she's got.
Ah.
That's sexist.
Enough said.
There's the Posh Ranch.
Saddle Club at the Posh Ranch.
At the Purpose Ranch.
The Saddle Club is a group at Purpose Ranch for kids who love horses.
Look at those cute little ponies.
Love that.
Oh, that's a darling.
Ah, and here comes the scoop picking up the rear.
Yay for the scoopers.
Yep.
Everybody's got a job to do.
Oh, see a little band coming.
Let's see, get a closer look here.
This is Wells Fargo.
We jump past, I think.
Well, I think it's a group that's representing end-corporate personhood.
Uh-huh.
Oh, they think they're mocking the idea that corporations really aren't people.
Move to amend coalition.
Yeah.
Corporations are not people.
Supreme Court decision a number of months back has really energized a whole movement
of, I think, a few million Americans, if not many millions, who think it's inappropriate
that corporations get the same rights and privileges as human beings.
So this group is representing that idea.
The movement is intended to amend the constitution to bring back democracy to the people.
The members of this entry are of all ages, from young kids to seniors.
How about one of those up here? Come on.
One of them got the Twin Towers leading the front here, huh?
Let's go.
Let's see if you can get it up here, right here.
Crispy, water balloon, Crispy.
One more time.
Dream.
A lot of people don't know the ACLU actually supports corporate personhood,
and that seemed contradictory since most people.
Okay.
Restore the American dream.
Passing by our booth.
And right behind them.
Well, the move to amend coalition is paused in front of us.
I'd like to remind you that you're watching exclusive coverage of the 110th annual Nevada
City Independence Day Parade, produced by Touchdown Productions, right here on N-C-T-V and
streamed live at NevadaCountyTV.
org.
We're all over the world.
We're all over the web.
Anybody can see us.
Let me see if I can identify someone to speak with here.
Pamela Hall is there.
Pamela, we're live on N-C-T-V here.
Oh, wonderful.
I'd like to say a few words to our audience.
Well, there's a lot of problems that people understand.
We're having with banks and foreclosures, but there's a solution that I'm really excited
about, and that's having a public bank.
We could have a public bank in Nevada County,
public bank, and bring prosperity to our community.
So similar to a co-op market, only a bank.
Much better.
It's been done all around the world in different countries.
We have one state public bank in North Dakota.
They're doing really well.
Go to form.
org and find us.
Thank you.
I'll need to let you go now.
Thank you.
Thank you, Pamela Hall.
Hey, next entry, Jazzercise.
Here's some energy coming in front of us.
Why don't you get it once?
Whoa.
Does it make you want to get up and move?
No, I didn't even like watching Jody Griggin's tapes back in the day.
World's largest dance fitness program.
Well, and they are dedicated.
These girls get after it.
They come to every grade and always make a good entry to watch.
It's not easy to do this on asphalt for a mile.
I can tell you that.
Well, them girls is in shape.
They've been working out before.
This isn't their first parade.
No.
Probably looking for some water shooters right now.
Yeah.
Fresh water.
There it is.
And here we come.
Boy, look at them go.
That's fun.
My sister-in-law took me one of those classes one time.
I didn't think I was going to walk for a week.
The last row.
Young woman's wearing flip-flops.
Boy, I don't know how she does that.
Hey, here's a Nevada County Democrats.
Keeper of the flame for the Democratic Party.
Holding signs for some local candidates from the Democratic Party for local seats.
We've had redistricting here in California just recently,
so a lot of the Assembly and Senate districts have been mixed around
and new candidates and new opportunities to win.
For either party.
Yes.
We'll see if I can find a spokesperson here from the Democratic Party.
And let's see.
We're live on TV here.
Would you like to say a few words to our audience?
We're just out here to show Jim Reed some coverage,
and we want to make sure that everybody gets a message today.
And he's running for the House of Representatives?
Yes, he is in the first district.
Is this a newly redistricted area?
Yes, it is.
It goes all the way to the California border.
Thank you.
Welcome.
There we go.
Jim Reed for you, Democrats.
For Congress.
And right up behind them.
Now as the Democrats walk through our Nevada County community for Obama.
Chapter of Women for Obama also.
This looks like, is this a newer organization to our community?
I don't believe Women for Obama is an organization.
From what I've heard of it, I think it's put together specifically for the parade.
Okay, great.
Doesn't that spell whoa?
Women.
Obama.
Whoa, women.
Possibly.
Yeah.
You could take it that way.
Yeah.
Celebrating the American dream means giving all Americans a fair shot at middle-class security.
Yes, we can.
You got a booty shaking.
This is Jetherside.
Like the outfits in the banner.
Looks like a hand-crafted banner.
Yes, Uncle Sam.
We just had an Uncle Sam come over to us and let us know he's 236 today.
Looking good.
Still walking.
This is another lengthy parade entry similar to the Tea Party Patriots, but for the Democrats.
Nice convertible there.
Fair taxes, reform the tax code.
Some of the signs.
Life and drums playing here.
Say, Democratic registration has been increasing slightly in Nevada County over the past decade,
but the independent registration has also been increasing.
Go, Go Sam.
Boy, they sure getting out.
These folks are real vocal.
I'm glad that they separated both groups.
I don't know if that was by
plan or by proxy, but it worked
tomorrow.
Or order of their entry.
Yeah.
Well, patriotism is alive and
well in Nevada County and it
takes all stripes and all colors.
It sure does.
I think the important thing is
to be engaged in the process.
Here's the aviation aces.
Aces.
That's Verizon right there.
Going by us now.
Nice little promo for them.
Being the parade.
Okay, coming up as the Empire
Mine Park Association.
A very important part of our
parks here.
So much history with our local
mining and the state park.
And those docents all volunteer
and are remarkable.
Dressed in costume.
Out there rain or shine, they put it on.
They're great.
The Empire Mine State Park is an
important economic generator for
western Nevada County here because so many
tourists come, especially to see it.
Really helps our hotels, motels and
restaurants and shops.
And here they go.
They're being followed up here.
This is the
Habitat for Humanity Restore.
Lots of interesting
things to be purchased that store up there
by the airport.
I love that place.
This is a place that repurposes
building materials and household items.
We needed some shelving
for under our garage stairs and it didn't
have to look great so we went there and we
found a former cabinet with no top on it
but that didn't matter and we just stuck it
under the garage stairs.
And of course the restore
supports Habitat for Humanity
which builds
affordable housing for
local residents.
Here's Lynn on the bicycle.
Yeah.
Okay, the Nevada County Italian Festival.
All right.
I'll be out there
at the genealogical booth.
Yeah, that's coming up.
Historical Society, yes.
Oh, you have a booth there at the
genealogical booth, yes.
That's September 15th and 16th
at Western Gateway Park
in Penn Valley.
You know,
not many people know that we have a large
Italian heritage here and
so the foundation
was created to honor the legacy
of our Italian immigrants.
Oh, we're in Venice.
In Venice.
A gondola
on wheels.
Festival food features
giant food,
crafts, wine tasting,
bocce ball.
Leave the sensei.
Center.
You need to go.
This is the Empire Mine Association.
Yes, a lot of fun.
They got a bocce ball
tournament.
It's a hoot to watch.
If you remember, played it, it's just a.
.
.
It's become very popular.
And then our next entry now
is the Solar Electric Company.
And this is the Solar
Golf Cart called the Viking Ship.
This is a good day
for solar power to power that
for the entry.
The Viking Ship.
I bet you could do wheelies with this, sunshine.
Nice.
Can they have Rick Larson in there?
I don't think so.
Can we move in?
Look that solar panel right up to
your air conditioner and it'll be cool right
all the way down the hill, huh?
It provides energy as well as shade
for them.
Okay.
Fun entry coming up.
A crowd
pleaser.
Tapas Vitas.
They are highly entertaining.
Faternal organization.
They don't take themselves too seriously,
but they do provide great historical
plaques and dedications throughout our
community.
They do a lot of good.
They like to say that they're for the benefit
of withers and orphans,
especially withers.
Had a great
soapbox entry we really enjoyed.
Yes.
They might have
that here in the parade too.
Let's take a look and see.
It was a lot of fun.
They were hooked.
They do not take
themselves serious at all.
Let the good times roll.
Yep.
It looks like they've made a point
of not restoring their track.
Former fire engine number 10.
Look
at all those folks
inside that ride.
Nickname is
the Clampers.
Yep.
My husband and I went to Downyville once
for the weekend without making advance
reservations.
We got there and we found
out that Clampers were in town.
No rooms to be had.
Oh, Rick.
I think your wish
has been granted.
I think we see
the soapbox derby outhouse.
Here it comes.
Oh, my lord.
Yep.
Yep.
Here he comes.
Look at this.
This was a crowd favorite.
It has been both years.
Yeah.
Guys got the best seat in the house.
Yes, he does.
I want to drop it.
He's sitting on the throne for sure.
He's dropping one round the water.
Okay.
Usually he's got the toilet paper roll going on.
Oh, they do a lot of good work.
They do great.
Here's the Nevada County Consolidated coming by here.
Okay.
He's an engine 84.
Okay.
Second time around.
No local business.
Yeah.
Sweet little car.
Yeah.
Had it once.
You can have it another time, huh?
Carve totem pole on the inside
with some flags.
Quality used furniture.
I believe they're in the Seven Hills District.
Yeah.
Here comes the North San Juan Fire District
right here.
I've gone up to a couple of their events
and helped support those guys.
They're great.
The old hose.
Yeah.
On the wheels.
I've always loved their models.
They never lost a foundation.
Wonder if they still use that
if that is just decoration or on display.
That old pull cart?
Yeah, with the hose.
I'm going to try and get an interview here
with one of our firemen from North San Juan.
Hello there.
Happy Fourth of July.
You're on TV and CTV.
Would you like to say hello to our viewers?
Yeah.
Hey, from North San Juan.
What's up?
Whoa.
That was close.
Nice dance, Susan.
What we do for an interview.
The first float is the
Quail Ridge
Senior Living.
Yeah.
Assisted Senior Living and they also
offer outstanding Alzheimer's care.
We're coming.
We're kind of near the end here.
Yeah, they're coming back around.
Here they come, touring back around.
And who comes around the second time
as I told you in the woods?
My boys.
I love these guys.
This is Governor Doug Lamoffa.
He is running for re-election.
He is a fourth generation rice farmer.
Good luck, Doug.
Yeah.
And back by pal-peeler Demanda Orphan.
Orphan Prison Marching Pizuban.
Let's enjoy this one.
Orphan.
Hey, fur traders making second lap, too.
How about that?
I think we can figure out what it is this time.
You know, I think it's kind of a caterpillar
emerging into a butterfly.
Metamorphosing, is that it?
Oh, you know what? Yeah, silkworm.
Silkworm.
Second time around.
Nobody prompted me with that either.
That's why they take your final twice, huh?
He might be right.
Front is the caterpillar.
The back end is the beautiful butterfly.
I guess.
I think it's going to be much nicer in the shop.
That's for sure.
Yep.
And we paid him to stay away once
and they showed up twice.
It's the overpriced ban.
Oh, my God.
Wow, was that awesome.
What a great day in Nevada City.
And the rubber chicken
is bringing up the rear.
Wonderful parade.
We thank everybody for watching today.
Oh, boy.
With some bands and
food and fireworks.
Food and fireworks later.
Mm-hmm.
Activities for kids.
Beer for dads.
That's the only place to see fireworks, too, safely.
And they've got the parade awards
at 7 o'clock.
And your favorite band, Rick,
Jamal Walker and Loose Change is playing.
And they're also going to play tomorrow night
at the Thursday Night Marcus.
They are awesome.
Yeah.
Okay, we are going to go for a break.
I'd like to remind you you're watching exclusive coverage
of the 110th
annual Nevada City Independence Day Parade
produced by Touchdown Productions
right here on NCTV.

Rick,
what was your favorite, do you think?
I'm going with the Overpriced Band, always.
I love those guys.
They're great.
Susan, how about you?
I like the Grass Valley
Host Lions.
They had the
Raphael around the top of the truck
with the flowers and
wild animals.
I think that they did a wonderful job.

This year we'll see over 100 community groups march down Broad Street including floats and marching bands all celebrating our nation's independence.
Our grand marshal today is Madeline Helling our former county librarian and we'll get a chance to meet and talk to Madeline later on in the broadcast.
So don't you dare change that channel we've got the Independence Day Parade covered for you as we present all the color, the pageantry and a real slice of Americana right here in Nevada City.
And when we come back we'll see a performance of the Nevada County Concert Band.
After we remind you you're watching exclusive coverage of the 110th annual Nevada City Independence Day Parade produced by Touchdown Productions right here on NCTV.

And remember to join the chamber and become a part of the fun team at your local Chambers of Commerce.

Rick,
what was your favorite, do you think?
I'm going with the Overpriced Band, always.
I love those guys.
They're great.
Susan, how about you?
I like the Grass Valley
Host Lions.
They had the
Raphael around the top of the truck
with the flowers and
wild animals.
I think that they did a wonderful job.
We want to thank our grand marshal,

well-deserving of this recognition

Today was just an incredible success
of beautiful weather
