Researching in Nevada County
Research by email
Our NCHS volunteers can perform research for you. We charge $20 per hour to perform research for you at the two facilities shown below. Photocopies and postage billed at cost. Send your request by email to info@nevadacountyhistory.org. Be specific as to which kind of records to search, time limit on research, and specific subject. We will respond with an estimate by return email.
Researching in Person
Two excellent historical research libraries in Nevada City:
1. Searls Historical Library
Operated by the Nevada County Historical Society: an archive of original historical documents and photos made accessible by a comprehensive card index. You will be assisted by volunteers.Photocopies $.50 each.

2. Doris Foley Library for Historical Research
Operated by the Nevada County Library: Newspapers on microfilm, cemetery and mortuary indexes, naturalizations, court records, tax records, property records on microfilm, mining collection, directories, local histories and much more. Staff available to assist.Photocopies $0.15 each--computer printouts $0.25 ea.
